In Rosarito there are more than 350 established gastronomic businesses, of which 85 are considered to cater to tourists and where special cuisine is prepared by various chefs and also boast its own regional dish such as the “Puerto Nuevo” style lobster, or Deer “Machaca” with quail eggs, you can enjoy classical music at Chabert’s Restaurant from the Rosarito Beach Hotel or a good musical show like Led Zeppelin tribute band in the “Cava” of the Gonzalez Restaurant.

Puerto Nuevo

Per the Puerto Nuevo Restaurant Association, that area of the city serves more than one hundred thousand lobsters a year, in 2006 such dish was served at the Ceremony commemorating the Fiftieth Anniversary of the Mexico City Bull ring, as well as the Summit for Border States held in Mexicali, B.C.

Playas de Rosarito’s main international gastronomic destination is Puerto Nuevo and its mainly recognized dish is the “Puerto Nuevo” style lobster, tradition behind this dish goes back over fifty years, when fishermen and their wives offered fresh lobster to Mexican and foreign tourists that visited local fishing areas.

The dish is accompanied by rice, beans, a unique sauce and large flour tortillas, this style of eating lobster has become quite popular and Puerto Nuevo is now a Gastronomic destination with many restaurants, cobblestone roads, handcrafted items and cafés.

Puerto Nuevo is a required stop for anybody visiting Baja California as well as Southern California. In October, the weekend closes to October 12, the Lobster Festival is held, with music, dancing, prizes, wine, beer and of course, “Puerto Nuevo” style lobster.

Strategic Plans

The primary project to be developed from this sector is the Academic Formation and Tourist Education Institute which we hope shall increase the leave al tourist related services.
